(China Daily) The Shanghai municipal government announced last month several measures to promote the high-quality development of the software and information technology industry, aimed at leveraging the sector as a key engine in supporting the city's economic growth, according to an official notice.  

Effective July 1 to June 30, 2028, these incentives cover 17 aspects in four main categories.  

These are: enterprises that meet certain criteria will be eligible for relevant incentives; AI-driven improvements will be promoted to enhance the industry; supportive policies for the cultivation of the industry will be improved, and cost-saving and burden-reducing measures for businesses will be facilitated.

(China Daily) Jiangsu province's capital Nanjing — a semi-provincial megacity with some 9.57 million residents living in 11 districts — has developed into a national advanced manufacturing base.  

Among the city's 500 major projects slated for this year, 228 are focused on advanced manufacturing. The Xinde Technology Artificial Intelligence Advanced Packaging and Testing Base Project initiated construction work with a total investment of 5.5 billion yuan ($774 million).

(China Daily) Drone makers in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, exported more than 6,100 drones in the first five months, up 252 percent year-on-year, and achieved a record for the period, according to a statement released by the municipal commerce bureau of the provincial capital.  

More than half of the 6,134 drones delivered are for agricultural use, the statement said.

(Xinhua) China had more than 1.12 billion internet users as of June 2025, according to a report released by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) on Monday.  

The report also noted that internet penetration in China reached 79.7 percent by June 2025, an increase of 1.1 percentage points compared with December 2024.  

According to the report, China has made significant strides in internet development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).

(Xinhua) China National Space Administration (CNSA) has issued a new directive to enhance quality supervision of commercial space projects, outlining clear responsibilities for key players.  

Released on Monday, the directive aims to upgrade quality standards and foster "orderly development" in the sector by detailing management rules across the lifecycle of projects, from design and manufacturing through launches and operations to recovery and decommissioning.

An article published this week by Nature said that following the significant impact of DeepSeek's R1 launch in January, researchers around the world are now increasingly enthusiastic about the emergence of China's second high-performance AI model.

(Xinhua) An AI-themed competition was launched on Saturday in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region to promote cross-border AI collaboration and innovation.

(China Daily) Three top surgical teams from China and the United Kingdom came together to conduct a remote robotic surgery spanning across continents on Thursday, with the medical teams saying it was like they were in the same operating theater.  

Led by Shanghai Renji Hospital, in collaboration with the Chinese University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Medicine and London's Royal Marsden Hospital, the multisite coordinated surgery took place simultaneously in Shanghai, Hong Kong and London.
